About Dr. Boto Ganzevoort
Background
Since 1989 when I qualified as a veterinarian, I started working with ostriches, first on a limited scale doing the odd post-mortem, but later my involvement with ostriches grew to a bigger scale. My involvement in ostriches became even bigger from 1996 when I worked for Saag Jonker Holdings. At that time they were taking 30 000 birds to slaughter and I was challenged on various aspects of the production cycle to increase my knowledge and experience. There were around 4500 breeders producing 100 000 eggs with 26 chick-rearing farmers and then the feedlots taking the birds through to slaughter.
During 2001 I started working for the Klein Karoo Group during which time gained more experience in different farming operations. I was also priviledged to work together with a team of veterinarians and microbiologists to try and sort out the many questions on the different aspects surrounding ostrich production.
In 2005 I started the business Ostri-Co to share my passion and knowledge on ostriches.
